Newcastle Schools Sport Partnership
What do you remember about physical education and sport when you were at school?
Cross country runs on freezing cold days or gym lessons in your vest and pants! There will be the fortunate few who remember fun and laughter in PE lessons that made you want to continue to play sport after you had left school.
Luckily school sport has changed and pupils nowadays have more opportunities than ever to take part in new and exciting activities during lessons and after school clubs. This is as a result of Newcastle School Sport Partnership´s plan to encourage young people to take up sport and physical activity. The School Sport Partnership´s aim is that "all children, whatever their circumstances or abilities should be able to participate in and enjoy physical education and sport".
Every pupil in every school in Newcastle is part of this project which has been running now for 6 years - 30,000 pupils. The Partnership has School Sport Co-ordinators who are based in every secondary school to promote PE and sport. They work with local primary schools to put the fun back into being active by giving all young people a chance to try out thrilling new sports and activities in their own school.
